—SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT-

            NEW MIDSD
             DIRECTOR
             SELECTED
Raphael C. Stringer has been selected as
the new Director of MIDSD to succeed
Willis Greenstreet. Bud Stringer offi-
cially assumed the duties of Director on
May 7, 1979.

Mr. Stringer is the fourth Director of
MIDSD. His predecessors have been Kermit
Day, who was director from 1970 until
1973 while MIDSD was a branch of Facili-
ties Management; Mike Springer, who
served from 1973 until 1975; and, most
recently, Willis Greenstreet, who was
Director from 1975 until this year.

Mr. Stringer comes to MIDSD from the U.S.
Postal Service where he served in a num-
ber of capacities since 1964. First as
Chief of the Management Analysis Branch,
then as Director of the Management Sys-
tems Division, he later became Director
of the Office of Management Services,
then Acting Regional Assistant Postmaster
General in support of the Northeast
Region. From there he became the Special
Assistant to the Senior Assistant Post-
master General for Finance, and finally
the Director of the Office of Information
Requirements and Technology.

Bud Stringer was born in Minneapolis,
Minnesota in 1931 • He served with the
U.S. Army in Korea, Japan, and Taiwan
from 1952 until 1955. Graduating from
the University of Minnesota with a B.A.,
he attended graduate school there until
              Bad Stringer
1961. In 1968, he was awarded the
Distinguished Service Award and in 1970
was a finalist for the Arthur Fleming
award for meritorious government service
by civil servants under forty.

The management of ADP services is by no
means new to Mr. Stringer, as there was
an ADP group within his last organization
at the Postal Service. The vast manage-
ment experience he brings to the
Director's office intimates a bright
future for MIDSD.

Bud and his wife Barbara live in suburban
Virginia. His hobbies include sailing,
auto racing, and flying.

We at MIDSD welcome Bud Stringer as our
new Director and hope he will find ful-
fillment and enjoy success in his new
job.
