                              August 30-September 1,1994
 BACKGROUND
A three-day symposium is being organized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Biosystems
Technology Development Program and the U.S. Geological Survey, with sponsorship from the U.S. Air
Force and U.S. Department of Energy.
Intrinsic bioremediation, the natural degradation of substances in ground water, can reduce concentra-
tions of some important types of contaminants. This symposium will focus on state-of-the-science and
regulatory requirements and will also provide an opportunity for exchange of information and views
among the many parties interested in intrinsic bioremediation as a ground water treatment option.

 AGENDA

Symposium presentations will examine the state-of-the-science of intrinsic bioremediation and regula-
tory issues associated with application of the technology. Presentations will focus on identifying the
primary controls on intrinsic bioremediation and identifying the regulatory requirements for use of
 intrinsic bioremediation.

 AUDIENCE

The symposium will be attended by the regulatory and regulated community and scientists working
on all aspects of intrinsic bioremediation, including representatives of state and federal agencies and
 industry, academics, and contractors.

 CALL FOR POSTER PAPERS
If you are interested in presenting a poster paper, please submit a 1- to 2-page abstract for considera-
tion no later than April 22,1994. A limited number of poster papers will be selected for presentation.
Send your abstract to Helen Murray, Eastern Research Group, Inc. (ERG), 110 Hartwell Avenue, Lex-
ington, MA 02173-3198, FAX: 617-674-2906. Please fill out the attached application form and submit it
with your abstract. Abstracts selected for presentation at the symposium will be published. Preference
will be given to abstracts submitted by state agencies and abstracts describing case studies of intrinsic
bioremediation. It would be particularly helpful to provide data demonstrating removal of hydrocar-
 bons.

 REGISTRATION/INFORMATION

To register for the symposium, call Eastern Research Group, Inc. at 617-674-7374. For more informa-
tion about the symposium, call Helen Murray at 617-674-7307.
