1. Description of Chemical

    Chemical Name: Linalool
    Trade Name: Linalool 925
    Common Names: linalool
    EPA Shaughnessy No.: 128838
Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) Number: 78-70-6
    Year of Initial Registration: 1985
    Pesticide Type: natural oil
    Chemical Family: acyclic terpene alcohols
    U.S. Producer: Pet Chemicals, Inc.

2. Use Patterns and Formulations

Application Sites: indoor use only on dogs and cats and their bedding
    Types of formulations: liquid
    Types/foethods of application: pump spray

3. Science Findings

Chemical Characteristics: liquid with a fresh floral woody
odor; boiling point, 379 °F; molecular weight, 154.24; specific gravity,
0.863; practically insoluble in water; miscible with alcohol and
    ether.

Toxicity Characteristics: acute oral toxicity (4.9 and 4.13 gAg
for male and female rats, respectively); acute dermal toxicity
(2 gAg albino rabbits); acute inhalation toxicity (LCso less than
2.95 mgA)f not a sensitizer. No subacute or chronic studies are
required since linalool is generally recognized as safe under
21 CFR 182.60 (synthetic flavoring substances and adjuvants).

Environmental Characteristics: none reported; no data required to
support the manufacturing-use or indoor end-use product.

-------
Ecological characteristics: slightly toxic to rainbow trout and
bluegill -(28.8 and 36.8 ppn, respectively); slightly toxic to
aquatic invertebrates (36.7 ppm); practically nontoxic to birds
(LC 50 greater than 5620 ppn in bobwhite quail).
4. Summary of Science Findings
