United States EPA 570/9-91-028 Environmental Protection October 1991 Agency Office of Water l&EPA IYell .Activities Tracking Evaluation & Reporting System Inventory Permit | Compliance 4c Enforcement 1/ Inspection NOT Operation ------- Background ¦ The Well Activities Tracking, Evaluation and Reporting System (WATERS) is a stand-alone software package developed specifically for the UIC program. WATERS is the product of an EPA workgroup consisting of participants from EPA Headquarters, Regions and States. WATERS satisfies all Federal reporting requirements for Class II wells. ¦ WA TERS is consistent with the UIC Minimum Data Set and Definitions issued in 1990 UIC program guidance. WATERS is being developed in well class- specific components. The component designed for use by Class II programs is now available for use. ¦ WATERS includes six modules: permits, inventory, mechanical integrity testing, inspections, operations and compliance and enforcement. ¦ WATERS users have access to a detailed user's guide and technical assistance for converting their current systems and begin- ning operations with WATERS. ------- Functions ¦ WATERS enables users to track permits, manage well inventories, track inspection schedules, track relationships between enforcement and compliance activities, and to link all activities back to specific wells. ¦ WATERS produces facsimiles of EPA 7520 forms for Class II wells. ¦ WATERS offers an array of reports de- signed to facilitate program management and evalution. ¦ WATERS' user interface enables users to easily modify and add well information to the data base. B WATERS generates well schematics based on standard well construction information and on well-specific data. Each module comprises a folder; each folder contains several pages concerning one or more wells. ¦ WATERS1 user interface consists of pull- down menus, on-line help, pop-up win- dows, edit and value checks, hot keys, and other easy-to-use keyboard sequences. ¦ WATERS uses animation to help users to understand the system's functions. H WATERS includes a "power user'7 feature that allows users to customize features such as animation and edit verification. Planned Enhancements ¦ Novell-LAN compatible version ¦ Support for other well classes ¦ Cross-data base searching ¦ User-driven data base customization ¦ Improved well schematic ¦ Additional standard reports ¦ Expanded ad-hoc reporting ------- Reports WATERS users can select all wells or a subset of wells by specifying search criteria, and can then produce any system report containing the selected wells. WATERS' reporting function enables users to generate standard and ad-hoc reports in support of key program func- tions. WATERS reports include: Uses Prog Prog EPA Personnel Reports Plan Mgt Rpfa !
