Last October, we were happy to
announce that eleven companies
were shipping Energy Star
Pentiums. Now, just six months
later, more than two dozen
partners have reported over 80
compliant Pentium models to us.
With the advent of these models,
users don't have to compromise
high performance to save energy.
Energy Star Pentiums offer a
variety of impressive features
while still powering down to less
than 30 watts when not in use. To
demonstrate that high perfor-
mance and energy efficiency are
compatible, we're profiling five
systems from the Energy Star
Product Database Listing. (See
summary table below.)
AT&T's 3248 G620 and Digital's
CeiebrisFP 590-CD allow users to
reap the benefits of multimedia
with a CD-ROM drive and stereo
sound. Purchasers of the Dell
Optiplex XM590 get a one
gigabyte hard drive and their
choice of two of the following
options: a modem, CD-ROM
drive or network interface card.
Gateway 2000"s P5-100 has a
100 MHz Pentium processor
and comes standard with a
quad-speed CD-ROM drive and
two megabytes of Video RAM.
Finally, three notable features of
the Unisys GSP5905PC are the
tape backup, PCI local bus and
one gigabyte hard drive. All of
these systems have been
network tested and will not
disconnect from some net-
works when in sleep mode.
These high-end systems and
many more can be found in the
monthly Energy Star Product
Database Listing available to
you and your customers by
mail, fax or the Internet (http://
wwwxpa.gov/docs/GCDOAR/
EnergyStarJitml). If you have
compliant Pentium models you
would like us to indude in the
Product Database, please
complete and return the PC
product reporting form to us.

Energy Star Computers Program to its Green Lights Partners. These 1700
corporate and government Green Lights Partners are currently working with Elft
to make energy-efficient lighting upgrades. We are asking them to further
reduce their energy consumption by purchasing Energy Star computers and
office equipment To formalize their commitment, Green Lights Partners will be
encouraged to sign the Energy Star Purchasing Policy. Anyone interested in
buying Energy Star office equipment will also receive the Product Database
Listing .and Buyer's Guide.
Clarification for 100% Club
We are pleased that several partners have called us for clarification on member-
ship in the 100% dub. The product lines that are eligible for the 100% Club
currently indude: (1) computers, (2) monitors, (3) printers, and (4) fax machines.
In order to qualify for membership in the Club, 100% of a manufacturer's product
line must be Energy Star compliant. It is not sufficient to have certain product
models or sizes compliant Controlling d 'ice partners are not eligible for
membership in the 100% Qub. As stated in the MOU, the primary function of
these devices (which differs from computers, monitors, printers and fax ma-
chines) is to reduce energy consumption.
If your company is interested in joining the 100% Club, please call 202-233-9114
for more information.
When Reporting Products...
Make sure to only indude those configurations that meet the Energy Star guidelines. Options such as modems, CD-ROM
drives and extra memory should not be reported if they cause the system to exceed 30 watts in sleep mode. Abo, please
periodically check the Energy Star Product Database Listing by calling the Fax-back Line (202-233-9659) to verify that all
your repotted products are still available. Then inform us if there are any obsolete configurations that should be deleted
from the Product Database Listing.
