EPA SETS NEW SCHEDULE FOR PUBLIC HEARINGS ON DDT/TUSSOCK MOTH
REQUEST
The Environmental Protection Agency today announced a new
schedule for public hearings to be held on the request of the
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for permission to use
the pesticide DDT against the tussock moth on a contingency
basis. The request applies to the States of Washington, Oregon,
and Idaho.
DDT is not presently registered for this use.
The new hearing schedule supersedes the one announced by
EPA in the December 27, 1973 Federal Register. The new schedule
is:

The hearing record will be kept open for relevant submissions
until the close of business February 4, 19 74.
The last three hearing dates are intended to provide ample
time for interested persons not already familiar with the USDA
request to review it for meaningful comment. EPA received the
USDA request on January 3, 19 74; the Agency expects to decide
on it, after considering all comments, by March 1, 1974.
Copies of the request and a supporting 450 page draft environ-
mental impact statement are available for public inspection at the
U.S. Department of Agriculture, Room 3230, South Agriculture Build-
ing, 12th Street and Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington, D.C.
and also at several U.S. Forest Service locations in the north-
western States. Persons interested in reviewing the DDT request
documents in the Northwest should contact the U.S. Forest Service
Regional Information Office in Portland, Oregon at 50 3/221-29 71
for details.
