United States Information Resources January/February 1994 Environmental Protection Management EPA220-N-94-014 Agency (3404) <&EPA The Catalyst Information for Environmental Action An Information Seryice for EPA HQ Staff from the Headquarters Library Plug In to the Library On February 28, Agency staff in Waterside Mall with VABS access from their LAN will be able to plug into the HQ Library's LAN and CD-ROM tower from their offices. Access from remote sites in Northern Virginia and other buildings in the DC area is planned and will be phased in gradually. For more information on how to access, contact the Library at 202-260-5921 or email Library-HQ. * YOUR POWER SOURCE Focus on the Internet See for yourself... The Internet is a loose confederation of U.S. government, academic and research networks, providing access points to many domestic and foreign networks, housing information on thousands of topics. Agency personnel with an All-in-One account can send and receive electronic mail messages via the Internet to thousands of other users with Internet addresses. Staff with mainframe authorization can utilize the anonymous file transfer protocol to retrieve text of documents and reports (such as the National Performance Review report), or login to archive sites housing datasets as esoteric as Aesop's fables or the CIA's World Factbook. Interest in the Internet and access has grown at the Agency, and we're tasking this opportunity to share a little of our expertise with you. This issue will focus on the Internet, including references to resources for more information. ~ HQ Library staff will demonstrate access to several gopher and archive sites in an hour session on Thursday, March 17 at 9 am in the Library. To register, please call 202-260-5921 or email Library-HQ. We can show you how it's done. Note, however, that the Library is not a gateway to these services. In order to access them yourselves, you will need mainframe authorization, or an All-in-One address to send and receive email. ~ EPA Headquarters Library (3404) WSM2904 202-260-5922 Printed on Recycled Papet ------- Read more about it...
