MEETING OF COMMITTEE ON PESTICIDE DISINFECTANTS OPEN TO PUBLIC
The public may participate in a meeting of a Federal pesti-
cides advisory committee concerned with the effectiveness and
label claims of disinfectant type pesticides'. The committee,
which advised the Environmental Protection Agency, is known as
the Antimicrobial Program Advisory Committee. It will meet at
9 a.m., January 17, Conference Room 3305, Environmental Pro-
tection Agency, 401 M Street, SW., Washington, D.C., and for
three hours beginning at 9 a.m., January 18 at the same location.
One hour will be set aside at the beginning of each day's
meeting for public comment. The meetings—the Committee's
third since its establishment last year—will concern an EPA
proposed policy statement regarding claims of residual action
by disinfectant type pesticides. Briefly stated, this policy
would limit the anti-germ activity claims of disinfectants,
air fresheners, sanitizers and fungicides to practical values
which can be demonstrated. Public health protection claims
would have to.be supported by clinical evidence. Residual
action refers to the activity of a pesticide after it has been
applied and dried.
Persons interested in participating in the meetings should
contact Dr. William G. Roessler (202) 755-2562 by-January 15.
