These manufacturers will now be required to meet an interim standard for the 19 76 model year of 2.0 grams per mile (gpm). The suspended statutory standard is .4 gpm. The interim standard is the same as that set by EPA in granting similar suspension requests of Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler on July 30, 19 73. After notice of receipt of the applications and opportunity for public hearing, today's suspensions were granted upon the basis that the 16 manufacturers made "all good faith efforts" to achieve the statutory standard. EPA determined at that time that the technology to meet the statutory standard does not exist. The other manufacturers receiving the suspension are: Baverische Motoren Werke AG (BMW) British Leyland Motor Corporation S.A. Automobiles Citroen Daimler-Benz AG Ferrari S.p.A. SEFAC Fiat S.p.A. Fuju Heavy Industries, Ltd. Jensen Motors, Ltd. Lancia S.p.A. Officine Alfieri Maserati S.p.A. Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Regie Nationale Des Usine Renault Rolls Royce, Ltd. Notice of the suspension appears in today's Federal Register. EPA has also granted the Toyo Kogyo Company, manufacturer of rotary and reciprocating engine vehicles, a one year sus- pension of the 1975 statutory emission standards. Their auto- mobiles will now have to meet the interim 19 75 standards estab- lished by EPA on April 11, 1973. Toyo Kogyo is the 35th manu- facturer granted such a suspension by EPA.
