TO ITS "LIST OF VIOLATING FACILITIES" Star-Kist Caribe, Inc., in Puerto Rico has been placed on the Environmental Protection Agency list of violating facilities which prohibits the corporation from Federal contract renewal and renders it ineligible to receive future Federal contracts, grants or loans. The company was found in violation of the federal water pollution standards by discharging tuna processing wastes into the Mayaguez Bay in Puerto Rico. A company /may be placed on the list if it is found to be in violation of a water pollution discharge permit or applicable air pollution regulation. Companies may appeal this finding in a "Listing Proceeding." After hearing evidence presented, EPA makes a final determination on the listing. Star-Kist participated in a listing proceeding with EPA in October. EPA found the Company to be in violation of its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Permit. Star-Kist Caribe is the second corporation to be listed by the Agency. The Del Monte Corporation in Puerto Rico, charged with violating the water law, was placed on the list in October of this year.
