S. Environments 1 Protection Agency announced that Ford I Motor Co. today began sailing recall;notices to owners of about I 306,000 1987 Ford vehicles that exceed the federal carbon monoxide emission standard. The affected vehicles are the 1987 Ford Taurus and Taurus^ Wagon and Mercury Sable and Sable Wagon with 3-liter, fuel- injected engines. California vehicles are not included in the recall. The emission problem was found during EPA testing and Ford agreed to recall and repair the vehicles. The auto maker will replace the catalytic converter assembly at no charge to the owners. Carbon monoxide restricts blood flow to the body resulting in less oxygen available to muscles and 'organs. People with heart disease are especially affected by elevated levels. Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealers wi!ll repair the vehicles. The repair will take about one hour. R-95 # # ------- |
