PURPOSE AND SCOPE
States with Primacy: Utah, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota
o review and evaluate previous inventory and assessment
study
o verify inventory data base
o make specific suggestions on how states can complete
their inventories using their own staffs
States without Primacy; Colorado, Montana, Indian Lands
o review previous inventory and assessment study

o complete inventory and assessment
o advise states and EPA on how to maintain updated
inventories

METHODOLOGY
Phase I
o review previous inventory and assessment report
o verify inventory data base by telephoning a
representative sample of inventoried facilities
o determine completeness of inventory and assessment by
contacting representatives of regulatory agencies and
private industries
o research regulatory framework to identify those
regulations and policies which could affect Class V
injection wells and/or generate lists of wells
Phases II and III
o research hydrogeologic setting which could affect
Class V wells
o survey regulatory agencies to collect lists of wells,
inventory injection wells, and gather data on
environmental impacts
o survey installers and owners of Class V wells to verify
and complete inventory and to gather data on
environmental impacts
o complete inventory forms
o assess potential environmental impacts of Class V
injection practices
