Boston Harbor is a No Discharge Area
A No Discharge Area (NDA) is a designated body of water where the discharge of treated and untreated boat sewage is prohibited. Under the Federal
Clean Water Act and Massachusetts state law it is illegal to discharge untreated (raw) sewage from a vessel in US waters

Managing Boat Waste in a No Discharge Area
When operating in a No Discharge Area, Type I, Type II and Type III Marine Sanitation Devices can not be discharged. The US Coast Guard
regulations state that the MSDs Type I and Type II must be secured to prevent discharge in no discharge areas.
Examples of securing Type I and Type II MSDs, from the US Coast Guard
include: closing the seacock and padlocking it, using a non-reusable wire tie, using
a door handle lock, or removing the seacock handle.
