I 55 o SSK C3 Brownfields Training, Research, and Technical Assistance Grant Fact Sheet Northern Kentucky University's Institute for Public Leadership and Public Affairs EPA Brownfields Program EPA's Brownfields Program empowers states, commu- nities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. Abrownfield site is real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. EPA provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through assistance agreements to provide training, research, and technical assistance to facilitate brownfields revitalization. Organization Description Northern Kentucky University (NKU) is located in Highland Heights, Kentucky, seven miles south of Cincinnati, Ohio. As part of its Brownfields grant, NKU and its Institute for Public Leadership and Public Affairs have produced a series of reports updating Brownfields Insurance Products availability and efforts by different states to promote brownfield insurance programs. Accelerating Brownfields Cleanup and Redevelopment with Innovative Uses of Environmental Insurance Grantee: Northern Kentucky University's Institute for Public Leadership and Public Affairs Project Focus: Research and Technical Assistance Grant on Environ- mental Insurance Project Period: October 2003 to September 2008 Project Description: NKU has launched www.brownfieldsinsurance.org, a web site mat provides access to brownfield insurance specialists and offers a library that includes its prior project reports, journal articles, and case studies of insurance usage, as well as a glossary of terms. It is engaged in the study of, and technical assistance to, risk management and insurance use in area-wide brownfield redevelopment efforts that will result in a report on the role played by insurance. NKU will be issuing an updated report on state-level insurance programs while providing technical assistance to state personnel.
