Brownfields Sustainability Pilot Fact Sheet Community Center Rooftop Garden EPA Brownfields Program EPA's Brownfields Program empowers states, communities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. A brownfield site is real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. EPA's Browufields Sustainability Pilots provide technical assistance to support communities in achieving greener, more sustainable assessment, cleanup, and redevelopment at their brownfields projects. These pilots will also serve as models for other communities across the country. Project Description EPA has selected the Latino Community Development Agency (LCDA) to receive a Brownfields Sustainability Pilot. LCDA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life for the growing Latino population in Oklahoma City. LCDA is redeveloping a former commercial retail property that has been vacant since the 1980s and is currently contributing to blight in the Capitol Hill area of Oklahoma City. The project will transform the building into a critically needed community resource. EPA's assistance will support design plans for a community rooftop garden with a sustainable stormwater management system. These plans will reflect innovative approaches in green building concepts and long term stewardship. The building will be LCDA's new home, out of which various community sendees (e.g., healthcare, daycare, senior services, social services, etc.) will be provided. \ Technical Assistance: Roof Garden Design Technical Assistance Recipient: Latino Community Development Agency (LCDA) Project Focus: Design plans for a community rooftop garden with a sustainable stormwater management system in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Funding Amount: $25,000 Contacts For further information, including additional technical assistance information, brownfields news and events, and publications and links, visit the EPA Brownfields Web site at: www.epa.gov/brownfields.
