                                   H.O. Wolding
H.O. Welding is a transportation carrier based out of Amherst, Wisconsin.
H.O. Welding works with shippers primarily in the Mid West, North
East and South East. Their fleet of 325 trucks travel about 40 million
miles per year. Customer service and environmental commitment are two of
H.O. Welding's top priorities. "We pride ourselves on our on time services
from pick-up to delivery. In addition our business shares a concern for the
environment," notes Arne Nystrom, Fuel Manager of H.O. Welding.

H.O. Welding has demonstrated their environmental values by streamlining its
tractors and trailers, utilizing smaller diameter tires, and by implementing idle
reduction policies which have lowered fuel consumption. According to
Nystrom, the company has cut its idle time by 100,000 hours in the last two
years alone, resulting in a net savings of about $250,000 dollars. Nystrom adds,
"The drivers closely follow our idle rules and use the idle reduction equipment
we had added to their trucks." H.O. Welding's emission reduction techniques
have removed 55,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the air in the last two
years. In addition, utilizing SmartWay-recommended technologies in their fleet
is predicted to reduce CO2 outputs by 28,858 metric tons in 2006 alone.
Nystrom expects idle reduction technology to be installed and operational on
the entire fleet by the end of 2006. Nystrom notes, "Making your fleet more
environmentally friendly is not that hard to do."

Regarding the SmartWay program, Nystrom comments, "I am encouraged by
the SmartWay programs and am excited that shippers, carriers, and logistics
entities are beginning to work cooperatively to talk about an issue that affects us
all — the environment." SmartWay tools such as the FLEET emissions model
have been beneficial in
calculating H.O. Welding's
financial and emissions
reductions. SmartWay has
also helped the company
identify new technologies in
the market. The company's
enthusiasm for implementing
environmentally responsible
techniques demonstrates
their environmental
leadership and passion for
environmental stewardship.
