              SmartWay Tractors and Trailers

When used together, SmartWay tractors and trailers can achieve fuel savings of 10 to 20 percent,
lower greenhouse-gas emissions, and significantly reduce nitrous oxide, particulate matter, and
              other air pollutants.

This fact sheet describes specifications for U.S. EPA Certified SmartWay tractors and trailers. It
also provides SmartWay Partners with guidance on where to purchase this equipment and how to
get permission to use the SmartWay Tractor and SmartWay Trailer logos.

              Information for Manufacturers
What are U.S. EPA Certified SmartWay tractors and trailers?
They are long-haul truck components with significantly lower
emissions and fuel consumption. EPA and leaders in the freight-
equipment-manufacturing industry worked together to develop
              these performance qualifications.

When manufacturers equip long-haul tractors and trailers with these specifications, they are
designated and labeled as "U.S. EPA Certified SmartWay." The U.S. EPA Certified SmartWay
label may be used at point-of-sale and applied to the interior of the tractors and trailers by the
              equipment manufacturers.

A Partner company that purchases a U.S. EPA Certified SmartWay tractor must commit to use
low-rolling resistance tires and eliminate extended idle periods. The company must also sign the
SmartWay logo guidelines. A Partner that purchases a U.S. EPA Certified SmartWay trailer and
signs the SmartWay logo guidelines may affix the "2007 SmartWay Trailer" logo on the outside.

These logos signify the tractor and/or trailer meet EPA's environmental and fuel-efficiency
standards for excellence. This is an exclusive designation that sets the SmartWay Partner apart
from its peers in the industry. For carriers and truckers, the SmartWay logo is a signal to
consumers and the community that they are taking actions to limit the environmental impacts of
              their business operations.

Any company may purchase U.S. EPA Certified SmartWay tractors and trailers. However, only
SmartWay Transport Partners may apply the logo to the exterior.
