Currently.
• Completed removal of the dam spillway bridge Friday.
• Completed removal of overbank sediments along the confluence channel. EPA thanks Enviro-
con for undertaking this Best Management Practice and relocating 43,000 cubic yards of clean
material out of the floodplain. Preventing these sediments from eroding during high flow this
spring helps reduce the impacts to aquatic life downstream.
• Completed the Clark Fork River outlet/diversion dike road, allowing access to the spillway
and tunnel pond from the sediment accumulation area 1 (SAA-1) point.
• Sediment excavation continues from cells 2 and 5.
• Continue loading 45 rail cars each day. To date, 870,199 tons (756,695 cubic yards) of
sediment have been hauled to the Anaconda Smelter Superfund Site for use in site reclamation.
• Currently pumping 85 gallons per minute (gpm) from 2 wells. Will begin pumping water from
Tunnel Pond later this week.
• Re-grading soil stockpiles, sorting concrete stockpiles.
• Began hauling approximately 15,000 cubic yards of landfill material to Tunnel Pond for
disposal. Should be complete this week.
• This week, sending stockpiled steel to Missoula for recycling; tires to landfill for disposal.
• Remnants of an old train were found in Tunnel Pond on Friday; details to follow.
• Work continues for replacement of State Highway 200 bridge. Installation of the pier cais-
sons has been slower than expected but the project is still on schedule overall.
• Work continues on the Pedestrian Bridge. The "hybrid" bridge truss has been constructed,
combining two sections of one of the old trussed with a new middle section. The re-newed
bridge will span the Blackfoot River, allowing for better fish and boat/floater passage.

Milltown-Bonner Area Drinking Water Well Program
Since beginning its well identification and mitigation program last fall, EPA has re-
placed (or is in the process of replacing) 79 domestic water wells in the Milltown-
Bonner area. In addition to the residential wells, EPA has also replaced 3 public water
supply wells, serving over a hundred families. These wells were identified through an
extensive survey and data collection effort conducted by Missoula County and the U
of M. All told, EPA is spending over $1,000,000 on well mitigation in the Bonner-
Milltown area. The ground water levels are coming up now with the higher spring
flows and it appears that the groundwater may have reached an equilibrium with the
historic, pre-dam groundwater levels and we may not see any more significant drops in
area groundwater levels. However, if you have questions or concerns about your resi-
dential well, please call Deb Clevenger, EPA, 457-5004 or 1-866-457-2690 toll-free.
