GINGWAY'S STORE CROW CREEK INDIAN RESERVATION FORT THOMPSON, SOUTH DAKOTA Fort Thompson March 2009 ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Installed 7 MWs • Ground-water monitoring • Issued NFA letter • Abandoned all project wells • Well closure documents submitted to SDDENR EPA Region 8 performed this work in partnership with the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe and with contract support from Avanti Corporation. PLANNED ACTIVITIES/ FUTURE STRATEGIES None. The EPA Region 8 UST Program has closed the site. SITE HISTORY Gingway's Store used two underground storage tanks (USTs) installed in 1970. The USTs had a capacity of 500 and 1,000 gallons and were used to store gasoline. The USTs were removed in 1999. A release had been documented at the site, but the source of release was not determined by the tank removal as there were no holes in either tank. Approximately 50 in-place cubic yards and 70 loose cubic yards of contaminated soil were removed from the site. In 2002, EPA determined that the site was eligible for federal LUST funding. In 2004, seven monitoring wells were installed and indicated low levels of petroleum hydrocarbons. EPA implemented quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling that same year. After four quar- ters of contaminant concentrations below maximum contaminant levels (MCLs), EPA issued a "No Further Action" (NFA) letter in 2006. All seven monitoring wells (MWs) were abandoned in 2007.
