Installing and Setting Up the Conversion Tool
This guide describes how to install the ECT, how to set up the input files, and how to configure the ECT.
Additional information is provided on the usage and customization of the ECT file system directories.

If you already have aversion of the Conversion Tool installed, you must uninstall the existing version of the
Tool before you install the new version. See the document "Uninstalling the Conversion Tool" for
instructions on how to do so.

System Requirements

The system requirements for running the ECT are as follows:

    •  Windows XP 2002 (SVP2 or later), Windows Vista, or Windows 7;
    •  MS Office version 2003 or later;
    • At least 3.2 GB RAM; and
    • At least 2 OMB of storage.

Microsoft Excel is required for users who wish to use the basic EPA templates or create their own user-
defined files in Excel format.

Obtaining the ECT and Transaction Templates

The ECT and the transaction templates are available at the following location:

       http://www.epa.gov/oms/renewablejuels/epamts.htm

Two ECT files will be available at this location, in the form of Zip archives. The first file, "ectzip," contains
the ECT itself as well as the support files necessary for installation. The second file, "epatemplates.zip,"
contains the five transaction templates that EPA has created for the five transaction types. These files can
be saved anywhere the user chooses. The user will then need to use a utility such as WinZip to extract the
files. Figure 1 depicts the WinZip screen that appears after the user has doubled-clicked the file "ECT.zip."

The user can choose to extract the files to any desired location. In the example above, a location of
"C:\unzipped\ECT" has been selected. Once the location has been selected, the user should click "Extract."

Upon doing so, a folder -- "publish" -- will be created under the selected location.

Installing the ECT

After downloading the zipped ECT and extracting the files, the user must then install the application by
double-clicking on the setup.exe file. This file will be found in the "publish" folder that is created under the
target extraction location. Figure 3 depicts this folder when the files have been extracted to
"C:\unzipped\ECT." The setup.exe file has been circled in Figure 3.

The user will then be prompted to verify the request to install the application, and after verification, the
application will execute. Once the application has installed, the user can delete the "publish" folder if
desired.
If this is the first time the ECT is being installed, the installation will create a folder "C:\Documents and
Settings\\My Documents\EMTS Conversion Tool (ECT)." If the ECT has previously been installed
and uninstalled, this folder should already be present and subsequent installations will not overwrite the
folder. This folder will be used for the files that are input to the ECT, as well as the files that are output
from the ECT. Figure 4 depicts the contents of this folder for a user "wgo."

The installation will add an item to the Start Menu under "EMTS Conversion Tool (ECT)"; from this point
on, the user can execute the ECT from the Start Menu (see Figure 5). Reinstalling the application will result
in the loss of settings. By default, the ECT front page will appear after installation is complete. At this point,
the user can either continue with running the ECT, or exit and start the ECT again at a later time.

Directories

The ECT will create a set of directories as soon as it is downloaded and the setup executable is run. These
directories are used by the ECT in order to process files and consist of:

    •  A directory that holds the input files to be converted;
    •  A directory to which the successfully processed files are written;
    • A directory to which the unsuccessfully processed files are written; and
    • A directory to which the activity log is saved.

After download and setup, the default location of the directories will be in My Documents under the "EMTS
Conversion Tool (ECT)" folder (see Figure 6).

Directory: Files to Process Folder

The first directory, entitled "Input File(s) Folder," is where the input files should be stored. The directory
information is saved between executions.

-------
 EMTS Conversion Tool
Directory:  Good File(s) Path

The second directory, entitled "Good File(s) Path," is where the files that the ECT was successful in

processing and converting will be saved. These files have been converted to XML and checked for any

major input errors (e.g., missing required fields) and deemed acceptable. The user can upload these

converted files to the EMTS.

Directory:  Bad File(s) Path

The "Bad File(s) Path" is where the ECT will save any files that the user has attempted to process that have

some sort of major error and cannot be converted. Only data that has no major errors will be converted to

XML and saved in this folder; all data with errors will not be converted to XML. The user can then use the

comments provided by the ECT to amend the input file for re-processing.

Directory:  Log File(s)  Path

The "Log File(s) Path" folder will contain a log that details all of the successful and unsuccessful

conversions. The log captures the date, time, file that is being processed, and the outcome of the process.

   KKuhn: Welcome to Version 1.0.0.8.2. This application will format an Excel or delimited file for conversion to XML.
   Step ttl - If using a delimited file specify delimiter.
   Start by putting your data in a compatible delimited format.
   The default method is to let this application figure out if it is a tab, comma, or bar delimited formal.
   Otherwise, you may choose your own delimiter.

   This option is not needed if using an excel file, application will determine file type by it's extension.

Most options chosen and set by the user are saved between application executions. Those choices that are
NOT saved will be noted; otherwise, the user can assume that all the settings will be saved. This includes
the override output file name; if the user does not return to this screen and enter a new name for each file
being processed, the initial file name the user entered will be used for all files.
