Attention: Homeowners, Contractors, and Volunteers
Learn how to properly handle central air conditioning units
Handle central air conditioning units carefully to avoid releasing refrigerant
gasses like Freon.
These gasses are harmful to the earth's ozone layer, which protects us
from the sun's ultraviolet rays.
If your central air conditioning unit needs to be replaced, call a certified
professional to remove the refrigerant and properly dispose of the unit.
Do NOT bend, twist, puncture, or break the coils.
It is illegal to vent ozone-destroying refrigerants.
Finding Help
Look in your phone book under "Air conditioning contractors and systems" to
locate a trained professional.
Ask to see the contractor's certification card, which should mention the regulatory
citation 40 CFR Part 80.
