Community Description The Glen Cove Industrial Development Agency was selected to receive a brownfields cleanup grant. Located in eastern New York, the City of Glen Cove (population 26,622) was one of the original Brownfields Showcase Communities in 1998. It has been negatively impacted by brownfields and other polluted sites, including two Superfund sites. Brownfields have resulted in lost property taxes, with a ripple effect on property values, and concern about public health threats. Glen Cove has begun transform- ing a blighted industrial area into a thriving waterfront Cleanup Grant $200,000 for hazardous substances EPA has selected the Glen Cove Industrial Development Agency for a brownfields cleanup grant. Hazardous substances grant funds will be used to clean up the Doxey site at 10 Garvies Point Road, a former fuel storage facility that also has been used as a salvage yard and unautho- rized transfer station. The site is contaminated with metals, volatile organic compounds, diesel fuel, and pesticides. Grant funds also will be used to plan cleanup design, develop a cleanup work plan, and conduct community outreach activities.
