National Compliance Assistance Centers
User-friendly "first-stop shops." Learn about
federal and state environmental obligations in
plain language. Look for the center specific to
your industry or sector. Examples include:

Repair, Agriculture, and Local Government.
You can also access compliance tools, and
on-line training.
Industry Sector Notebooks
This series of primers describe the
environmental challenges facing more than 35
manufacturing, transportation, agricultural and
government sectors. Each Notebook contains
chapters on typical process operations,
pollutants, applicable federal regulations,
pollution prevention opportunities, the most
common environmental violations within the
sector, voluntary initiatives and associated
organizations.

Audit Protocols
These provide tools to help facilities conduct a
self-audit and assess how well they are doing
with federal environmental compliance. The
protocols define terms, include an overview of
the laws that apply to the sector, and have
user-friendly checklists to help with the self-
assessments.
Small Business Compliance
Assistance Policy
EPA encourages small businesses to
conduct self-audits and work with us if
environmental violations are
discovered. This policy explains how
businesses with fewer than 100
employees can benefit from a
reduction in penalties for federal
violations they discover, disclose and

Small Local Governments
Compliance Assistance Policy
This policy is designed to encourage
small local governments to achieve
sustained comprehensive federal
