EPA Announces Proposed Rule for the
Regulation of Fuel and Fuel Additives:
Alternative Test Method for Olefins
in Gasoline
T
he Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to allow
an alternative test method for olefins in gasoline.
Elements of this Rulemaking
This rulemaking proposes to allow an additional alternative test method for olefins in
gasoline, known as ASTM D6550'05. Allowing this test method will provide more
flexibility to the regulated industry without harming clean air benefits.
Health and Environmental Impacts
There will be no adverse health or environmental impact as a result of allowing this
alternative test method, and the clean air benefits of EPA's gasoline motor vehicle
fuel programs will continue to be realized.
Gasoline Supply Benefits
This proposed rule will provide additional flexibility to the regulated community
by allowing an additional alternative test method for the measurement of olefins in
gasoline. The proposed rule solicits comments on allowing this additional alternative
test method.
