Additional Cleanup Studies Soil and sediment sampling in Area 1 have been completed, and Georgia- Pacific LLC - a party responsible for pollution at the site - is expected to submit a remedial investigation report to EPA this month. Area 1 is the Kalamazoo River between Morrow Dam and Plainwell, and Portage Creek between Cork Street and the Kalamazoo River. The cleanup plan also includes removing contaminated soil from nearby wetlands and removing sheet piling at the A-Site part of the landfill. Work will begin this year on the Willow Boulevard portion of the landfill and at the A-Site part in 2012. Cleanup of both should be complete in 2013. Allied Paper Landfill Cleanup options should be done in May, with a proposed cleanup plan made available to the public by June, followed by a 30-day public comment period. Two weeks after the start of the comment period, the EPA will hold a public hearing on the proposed plan.
