Quick Facts on State Solar Energy Policy as of December 2009
A state renewable portfolio standard (RPS) that includes a solar set-aside requires a percentage of the
state's electricity be generated from solar resources. An RPS can also include a solar multiplier that gives
additional credit in meeting the RPS for solar projects or require an increase in distributed generation (i.e.,
electricity generation close to the point of use), which can spur solar development. Policy driven demand
for electricity generated from solar resources may increase the viability of PV solar generation at a site
that would other/vise not be considered viable based on solar resource availability.
