EPA New England Environmental Merit Awards
For more than thirty years, EPA New England has
honored those who have made outstanding
contributions on behalf of our region's environment.
EPA's Environmental Merit Awards program has
honored teachers, citizen activists, business leaders,
scientists, public officials and others who have made
outstanding contributions on behalf of our region's
public health and our natural environment. Please
consider nominating a special individual or group for
recognition by EPA. Nominations are due on
February 2, 2011.

IEDC Leadership Summit
January 23-25, 2011 - San Diego, CA
The International Economic Development Council's
2011 Leadership Summit, will provide an opportunity
to foster greater understanding and strengthen your
relationships. Attend with your stakeholders, and
build the strong relationships required for effective
leadership in your community. The Summit will help
you educate your stakeholders on the importance of
economic development and cultivate a greater
understanding among your community leadership
about emerging issues and successful strategies.

HUD Rural Innovation Fund Program
On December 2, 2010, HUD
announced that $25 million in grants is
available to help rural and tribal
communities struggling to address distressed
housing conditions and concentrated poverty. The
Office of Community Planning and Development's
new Rural Innovation Fund offers grants of up to $2
million to support innovative housing and economic
development activities. Eligible applicants include
federally recognized Indian tribes, state housing
finance agencies, state community development
agencies, local rural non-profit organizations,
community development corporations, or consortia
of these groups. Grantees can use their grant
funding to support a variety of housing and
economic development activities including
construction, preparation of plans, land acquisition,
demolition, homeownership counseling, and
financial assistance.

The APA will hold their 2011 National Planning
Conference in Boston at the Hynes Convention
Center on April 9-12, 2011.

Building Materials Reuse Association
Conference - Deconstruction 2011
May 15-19, 2011 - Yale University, New Haven, CT
The next Building Materials Reuse Association
Conference -Deconstruction 2011 is set for May
2011 and will feature three topic areas: Sustainable
Communities, Deconstruction & Materials Reuse,
and Construction & Demolition Debris Recycling.
The Call for Presentations is now open. They are
also accepting abstract submittals related to
deconstruction and building material reuse outside
of these topic areas. These tracks are intended to
reflect the full spectrum of building materials
conservation from new construction waste
management to materials salvage to the
incorporation of reused and recycled materials back
into new construction. Deadline for Abstract
Submittal, is January 5, 2011.
GREEN CHEMISTRY • HUMAN HEALTH - ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE
Sustainable Remediation 2011 Conference
June 1-3, 2011 - UMass, Amherst
The Sustainable Remediation 2011: State of the
Practice international conference will address the
interrelated themes of green chemistry, human
health, and environmental response. Session
presentations by scientists, practitioners, and
regulators will feature new research, field
applications, and lessons learned. The three-day
conference will kick off with a Plenary Session with
keynote presentations from leading researchers and
regulatory experts who will provide an overview of
the sustainable remediation landscape and address
research needs, policy and regulatory challenges
moving forward. The conference will feature 24
platform sessions, poster presentations including a
student poster competition, exhibits, and ample
opportunities for networking.
