                   Subject:  Notification of a Consultation on Soil Screening Levels

 Dear Ms. Browner:

      The Environmental Engineering Committee (EEC) of the Science Advisory
 Board (SAB) met in Washington, D.C. on March 2-3,1994.  During this meeting, the
 Committee consulted with staff of the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response
 on methodological approaches to developing soil screening levels for Superfund and
 corrective actions sites.  The staff briefed the Committee on their approach, and
 members and consultants of the Committee responded as individuals to various
 technical points.

      We appreciate the opportunity to assist and provide suggestions on issues such
 as this.  This consultation responded to a request by an EPA program. Since this is
 not a "formal" review effort, the individuals1 comments should not be considered advice
 from the SAB, and a formal response from the Agency is not expected.
