FACTS ON U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY REGION FIVE Wacker Dr. Chicago, Illinois 60606 312-353-5800 Water Supply Section The Water Supply Section, a part of the Program Support Branch pro- vides technical assistance at the State and Federal government level. Federal program support activities include water supply development, water resources planning, water resources development, environmental impact statements, and interstate carrier water supply programs. The water supply development segment of operations involves working with other Federal programs in water research development directed "by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Farmers Home Administration, and the Economic Development Admininstration, all of which are in charge of grant monies for construction of water supplies. In water resource planning, the section concentrates on health aspects and municipal water supply systems. In regard to water resource development, the section provides input whenever the Soil Conservation Service or the Corps of Engineers constructs a reservoir that would affect water supply. The interstate water supply programs aspect of Federal program support involves the certification of water supplies provided for use on interstate carriers. The state program support duties of the section include providing help by means of training assistance to state programs, conducting program eval- uations and making recommendations for improvement, making special studies concerning water supplies, and finally, collecting and disseminating data and information. The section made a study of fluoridation practices in Wisconsin which was published in a recent edition of the Journal of_ the American Water Works Association. EPA 905-F-73-023 ------- |
