EPA Finalizes an Alternative Test
                    Method for Olefins in Gasoline
                    T
he Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is finalizing a rule
to allow an alternative test method for olefins in gasoline.
                    Elements of this Rulemaking
This rulemaking allows an additional alternative test method for olefins in gasoline,
known as ASTM D6550-05 provided its' results are correlated to ASTM D1319-03El
using a site-specific correlation of FIA (volume percent) versus SEC (weight percent).
Allowing this test method will provide more flexibility to the regulated industry
                    without harming clean air benefits.
                    Health and Environmental Impacts
There will be no adverse health or environmental impact as a result of allowing this
alternative test method, and the clean air benefits of EPA's gasoline motor vehicle
fuel programs will continue to be realized.
                    Gasoline Supply Benefits
This final rule will provide additional flexibility to the regulated community by
allowing an additional alternative test method for the measurement of olefins in
gasoline. All comments were in support of allowing this additional alternative test
                    method.
