EPA-SAB-14-001

The Honorable Gina McCarthy
Administrator
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20460

Dear Administrator McCarthy:

On behalf of the SAB, I thank you for taking time to meet with the chartered SAB last week and
for sharing your vision for the role of science supporting the EPA's mission. Your participation
in the SAB's meeting recognizes in a visible way the importance of science to the EPA's mission
and the value of the Board's activities.

Our discussion with you will help us focus SAB future advice in ways most useful for the
agency. We hope to engage with you soon on several topics that you and your senior leadership
highlighted during the chartered SAB's meeting on December 4-5, 2013, and that we consider to
be areas where the SAB can be particularly helpful to the agency.

The SAB stands ready to serve by providing scientific and technical advice to support the
agency's mission.

                                 Sincerely,
                                Dr. David T. Allen, Chair
                                Science Advisory Board
