INTRODUCING A NEW
GENERATION OF OVER-THE
ROAD TRACTORS AND TRAILERS
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Certified
SmartWay tractors and trailers are a new generation of
long-haul rigs equipped with cleaner, fuel-saving
features that can significantly boost fuel economy and
save you money while lowering your fleet's greenhouse
gas and exhaust emissions.
The specifications for these tractors and trailers
were developed in collaboration between the US EPA
and leading tractor and trailer manufacturers. These
manufacturers now offer models that qualify for the
USEPA Certified SmartWay designation.
Fleets that invest in these certified tractors and trailers
are leading their industry toward a cleaner, more
fuel-efficient and secure future. Many of these fleets
have joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership - a
government/industry initiative committed to making
transportation greener and more energy efficient.
SmartWay Partners may identify qualified tractors and
trailers with an exterior SmartWay certification label,
sending a clear message to their customers and the
public that they care about saving energy and
protecting the environment. In today's world where
sustainability, environmental protection and energy
security are mainstream issues, such commitment and
visibility provides a distinct competitive edge.

How Do I ORDER US EPA CERTIFIED SMARTWAY
TRACTORS AND TRAILERS?
How Do THE SMARTWAY TRACTOR/TRAILER MARKS
REFLECT ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY COMMITMENT?
Certified
Several major tractor and trailer manufacturers
offer at least one model that qualifies for the
US EPA Certified SmartWay label. Many have
developed specification sheets detailing requirements
and options for ordering US EPA Certified SmartWay tractors or trailers. Older
trailers may also be retrofitted to qualify for the mark. The US EPA Certified
SmartWay mark is affixed to the interior of qualified truck cabs and trailers.
US EPA Certified SmartWay tractors can be ordered directly from the following
manufacturers and their dealers:
Freightliner Mack
Peterbilt Volvo
International Kenworth
Fleet and truck owners who purchase Smartway tractors or trailers, and who are partners in
EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership are eligible to display a unique SmartWay Tractor or
SmartWay Trailer mark on the exterior of their equipment.
Fleets and trucks that carry the US EPA Certified SmartWay Tractor and Trailer marks clearly
publicize their commitment to saving energy and protecting the environment. For a growing
number of freight carriers, this commitment is increasingly important to the bottom line,
meeting the needs of customers and addressing public concerns about climate change.
