Subject: Notification of a Consultation on Waste Minimization and
Combustion
Dear Ms. Browner;
The Environmental Engineering Committee (EEC) of the Science Advisory Board
(SAB) met in Washington, D.C. on June 28-30, 1994. During this meeting, the Committee
consulted with staff of the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response on issues relating to
waste minimization and combustion. The staff briefed the Committee on their approach, and
members and consultants of the Committee responded as individuals to various technical
points.
We appreciate the opportunity to assist and provide suggestions on issues such as this.
This consultation responded to a request by an EPA program. Since consultations have more
of a "brainstorming" character and are not a "formal" review effort, the individuals" comments
should not be considered advice from the SAB, and a formal response from the Agency is not
expected.

We do wish to recognize, however, the quality of the interaction between the Agency
and the Committee. The Agency staff were informed, articulate, supportive of the
consultation effort, and very helpful in both planning and conducting the consultation.
