Summary: EnviroAtlas is a collection of interactive tools and resources that allow users
to explore the many benefits people receive from nature, often referred to as ecosystem
services. EnviroAtlas is an online application with data housed in EPA's GeoPlatform.
The URL is http://enviroatlas.epa.gov/EnviroAtlas.
Key components of EnviroAtlas include:
• A multi-scaled Interactive Map with broad scale data for the lower 48 states and
fine scale data for selected communities;
• The Eco-Health Relationship Browser, which shows the linkages between
ecosystems, the services they provide, and human health;
• Ecosystem services information, CIS and analysis tools, and written resources
EnviroAtlas contains over 300 data layers for the contiguous U.S. and over 90 data
layers for selected communities.
The intended outcomes of EnviroAtlas include the following:
• Jumpstart innovation by providing wealth of data
- supplement research across many organizations
- increase development of proprietary and non-proprietary tools by outside
organizations by allowing them to tap into EnviroAtlas data and tools
• Boost "environmental intelligence"
- convey uses and benefits of green infrastructure, including benefits to human
health and wellbeing
- utilize systems thinking to reveal co-benefits and unintended consequences
- advance the state of the science on the role of ecology in public health
• Increase community empowerment
- provide easy public access to environmental data and analytical tools
- post and integrate community data with national data
- contrast and learn from conditions in other regions, communities and
neighborhoods

Why is EnviroAtlas useful?
Though critically important to human well-being, ecosystem
services are often overlooked. EnviroAtlas seeks to measure
and communicate the type, quality, and extent of the goods and
services that humans receive from nature so that their true
value can be considered in decision-making processes.
Using EnviroAtlas, many types of users can access, view, and
analyze diverse information to better understand how various
decisions can affect an array of ecological and human health
outcomes. EnviroAtlas is available to the public and houses a
wealth of data and research.
