To prevent oil spills from ASTs, many facilities are
required to develop an oil spill prevention plan under
the Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure
(SPCC) regulation.
Steps to prevent oil spills from ASTs include, but are
not limited to:
• Using tanks compatible with the oil stored
• Providing overfill prevention for oil tanks
• Providing secondary containment for tanks
• Inspecting and testing aboveground piping and oil
  tanks
