Welcome Message: February, 1997

The U.S. EPA Technology Innovation Office (TIO) is proud to
announce a new service to keep you abreast of developments in
technologies for site characterization and remediation. We are
initiating this service to better serve our clients' need for current
       information on technologies.

       What is the service?

TechDirect is a free service that highlights new publications and
events of interest to site remediation and site assessment
professionals. At the beginning of every month, we will send you a
message describing the availability of publications and events. Our
short messages will describe the publication or event and direct you
to places to obtain further information. If you like the service, do
nothing. If you do not wish to receive the notifications, you may
       unsubscribe easily (see below).

       Who are we?

TIO produces numerous one-time and periodic publications and
electronic information on technologies and markets for soil and
ground water remediation. We strive to provide information that is
relevant to technology developers, academics, consulting engineers,
and state and federal regulators. TIO's mission is to advance the
use of new technologies for characterization and remediation.

Most of the information TIO generates resides on our Clean-Up
Information (CLU-IN) home page at http://clu-in.org. CLU-IN is
intended as a forum for all stakeholders in waste remediation and
contains information on policies, programs, organizations,
publications and databases useful to waste remediation
professionals. The site contains technology descriptions and reports
as well as current news on business aspects of waste site
remediation. It includes links to other sites important to managers
interested in site characterization and soil and groundwater
       remediation technologies.

       Now Available:

Technology Evaluation Report: Treatment Walls (TE-96-01)

This report prepared by the Ground Water Remediation
Technologies Analysis Center (GWRTAC) provides a state of the art
review of treatment walls. Information used to prepare this report
was gathered primarily from peer-reviewed papers and publications.
Report contains a description of the technology and information on
       performance, cost, applicability, regulatory/policy requirements,
lessons learned, and general references. Download from

       Technology Summaries

These summaries prepared by GWRTAC provide an introduction to
the general principles and techniques associated with the
technologies listed below, a discussion of the technology
applicability to groundwater remediation, data related to results of its
use, advantages/disadvantages of the technology, and references.
