Materials
Management

What is Sustainable
Materials Management?
As our economy grows, so does our
use of materials. Sustainable
materials management is a systems
approach to using and reusing
materials more productively over
their entire lifetime. By using this
approach, we can find new ways to
reduce environmental impacts,
conserve resources, and cut costs.
Q
What is the Problem?
EPA has hundreds of reports, tools,
and other resources that can help
with sustainable use of materials
on our websites, but it's not always
easy to know which are the most
relevant. Finding the information
you need to put sustainable
materials management into
practice can be hard.
