In 2002, the Small Business Liability Relief arid Brownflelds Revitalizatiori .^ct was passed to help states arid communities around the country cleanup arid revitalize brownflelds sites. Under this law, EPA provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through four competitive grant programs: assessment giants, revolving loan fund grants, cleanup giants, arid job training grants. Additionally, finding support is provided to state arid tribal response programs through a sepirate mechanism. Assessment Grants $ J50,000for hazardous sub dances $!50,000for petroleum EPA has selected the City of St. Helens for two brownfields assessment grants. Community-wide hazardous substances grant funds mil be used to conduct up to four Phasa I and three Phase ll environmental site assessments, arid complete one cleanup plan. Grant funds also will be used to support comniuriity involve merit activities, arid expand and prioritize the city's inventoiy ofbrownlield sites. Corrariunity-wide petroleum grant funds will be used to conduct the same tasks at sites with potential petroleum contamination.
