In 2002, the Small Business Liability Relief arid Brownflelds Revitalizatiori .^ct was passed to help states arid communities around the country cleanup arid revitalize brownflelds sites. Under this law, EPA provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through four competitive grant programs: assessment giants, revolving loan fund grants, cleanup giants, arid job training grants. Additionally, finding support is provided to state arid tribal response programs through a sepirate mechanism. Assessment Grants $200,000for hazardous subdances $100,000for petroleum EPA has selected the Town of Great Barririgtori for two brownfields assessment grants. Community-wiifc hazardous svbstarices grant funds will be used to conduct two Phase I arid two or three Phase II environmental site assessments, arid develop two cleanup plans. Coriiriiurdty- wide petroleum grant funds will be u;ed to conduct one or two Pha« II err/irorimerital site assessments, arid develop one cleanup plan. Grant furds ofboth types also will be used to support community involvement activities, including public meetings, outreach materials, arid site fact sheets. Assessment activities will taiget sites within the Village of Housatonic in Great Barririgtori.
