In 2002, the Small Business Liability Relief arid Brownfields Revitalization Act was passed to help states arid commuriities around the country cleanup arid revitalize brownfields sites. Under this law, EPA provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through four competitive grant programs: assessment giants, revolving ban fund grants, cleanup giants, arid job training grants. Additionally, finding support is provided to state arid tribal response programs through a sepirate mechanism. Environmental Workforce Envelopment arid Job Training grant funds are provided to nonprofit organizations and other eligible entities to recruit, train, and place residents from solid arid hazardous waste-impacted commuriities, including low-income and minority, unemployed, arid underemployed individuals. To date, EPA has funded 274 job trainirg grants totaling over $57 million through the Environmental Workforce Development arid Job Training program. As of May 2017, more than 16,300 individuals have completed training, arid of those, almost 12,000 have obtained employment in tit environmental field, an average starting wage of over $14an hour. This equates to a cumulative placement rate of approximately 73% since the program was created in 1998. Job Training Grant $200,000.00 EPA has selected St. Louis Community College for an Environmental Workforce Development arid Job Training grant. St. Louis Community College plans to train 65 students arid place at least 52 graduates in environmental jobs. Hie core training program includes 222 hours of instruction in: 43-hour HAZWOPER; first aid/CPR; introduction to environmental tec hnology, OS PL1! 10-hour construction safety, chemical hazards; bloodborrie pathogens; lead abatement worker; mold remediation; lead renovatoi; repair, painting; asbestos abatement worker; underground storage tanks; environmental sampling arid monitoring; inriovatr/e/altemative treatment technologies; storm water management; OSHA 7405 fall protection; C6HA 7410 excavation and trenching; OSHA 7300 permit required confined spaces; arid ecosystem restoration. Participants who complete tit baiting program will earn too state ard 16 federal certifications. St. Louis Community College is targeting unemployed, underemployed, arid dislocated woikers, ire hiding veterans and ex-offenders, of the St. Louis Missouri-Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area.
