EPA Clarifies References to ENERGY STAR Windows Guidelines
As you may already be aware, more stringent specifications for ENERGY STAR qualified windows went into effect on
January 1, 2010. For more information, on the new ENERGY STAR Windows, Doors, and Skylights requirements,
visit wwwenerqvstar.qov/windows.
Due to the upcoming new guidelines for ENERGY STAR qualified homes that will become effective next year, EPA
has decided not to update the current ENERGY STAR for Homes guidelines for windows at this time and will allow
homes to continue to be qualified using the previous ENERGY STAR window specifications. However, the new
ENERGY STAR window specifications will be integrated into the upcoming ENERGY STAR for Homes Version 3
guidelines that will become mandatory in January, 2011,
EPA has posted revised guidelines highlighting this policy clarification, which are available through the "Technical
Resources" link on www.enerqvstar.gov/homes.
