ENERGY STAR® Labeled Products: Verification Testing
2011 Summary
In order to ensure that ENERGY STAR labeled products meet consumer performance
expectations on an ongoing basis, a subset of models are subject to verification testing each
year. This testing occurs through four complimentary programs, two of which are focused
exclusively on lighting.
Verification Testing Rates
ENERGY STAR qualified products available for sale in the United States are subject to
verification testing to ensure they continue to meet performance requirements. In 2011,811
models underwent verification testing. Of these:
•	590 models were tested through verification testing administered by EPA-recognized
certification bodies (CBs). Further details on the verification testing process forCBs are
available at www.enerqvstar.gov/CBresources.
•	108 appliance and heating and cooling equipment models were tested through U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) administered verification testing. The "DOE Verification
Testing in Support of ENERGY STAR" 2011 report provides details on DOE-administered
verification testing.
•	100 compact fluorescent lamp models were tested through the ENERGY STAR CFL
Third Party Testing and Verification program. Detailed reports with test results from Batch
1 and Batch 2 are available at www.energystar.gov/integritv.
•	13 luminaire models were tested through EPA administered verification testing under the
Quality Assurance Testing for Residential Light Fixtures and Solid State Lighting
Luminaires program. The Quality Assurance Testing Guidelines and Procedures Manual
and results are available at www.energystar.gov/integritv. Luminaires verification testing
transitioned to the CB-administered process on April 1, 2012.
The overall compliance rate was 93%. Table 1 provides a detailed summary of results.
Disgualification
ENERGY STAR qualified models that fail to meet ENERGY STAR requirements during
verification testing are subject to EPA's disgualification procedures. As a result of 2011
verification testing, EPA disqualified 53 models based on testing failures. Additional separately
branded versions of the 53 disqualified models were also disqualified. Table 2 provides a detailed
summary of the number of unique models disqualified by product category.
The current list of disqualified models is available at www.energystar.gov/integritv.
