This commemorative day is the official start of the national ENERGY STAR Change a
Light, Change the World campaign. Every American is encouraged to change at
least one traditional light at home to a light that has earned the government's ENERGY
STAR label. The campaign is run in partnership with thousands of retail stores,
manufacturers, utilities, energy efficiency organizations, non-profit organizations, and
state governments, and takes place each October, during Energy Awareness Month.
