Year 2000 Readiness
The Office of Mobile Sources (OMS) is working to make the date
change from 1999 to 2000 as seamless as possible. As of July, 100
percent of all mission-critical systems were compliant These systems
have been tested and will be able to accurately process data in the Year
2000. Desktop computer systems are still being worked on; however, all
are expected to be compliant by the end of October. OMS has prepared
business continuity and facility contingency plans to ensure that, even if
systems fail, all operations will continue through the date change.

Status of OMS Information Systems and NVFEL
Testing Systems
CFEIS has nine major subsystems, all with various year and date
stamps. Vehicle manufacturers have successfully submitted Model Year
2000 certificate applications, leaving at issue only three calendar year
date fields in one subsystem untested with real Calendar Year 2000 dates
(Manufacturer Test Data System). The entire system has been validated
for Year 2000 compliance, so we do not expect any delays in the issu-
ance of Certificates of Conformity for vehicle manufacturers. For addi-
tional information, please contact Richard Parsons at 734-214-4324 or
