Project Scope In 1998, in an effort to reduce energy and water consumption, Gresham-Barlow School District adopted a Resource Conservation Management (RCM) policy, investing in building infrastructure, hardware, and the purchase of energy management software from Save More Resources (SMR). Project Summary Using Utility Manager11'1 (UM) Pro software from SMR, Gresham-Barlow could easily identify billing errors and consumption anomalies, track real-time energy usage, identify trends, make accurate projections, as well as create sophisticated forecasts, budgets, and customized reports. With the project management skills of an outside energy management firm, New Energy Technology, the district successfully implemented numerous facility and equipment improvement projects ranging in size from installing simple motion sensors and pool covers to complex DDC systems. • Energy Savings Gresham-Barlow has decreased its overall energy use by 46%. • Investment In addition to its investment in the utility management software solution from SMR, the District pursues funds from Senate Bill 1149 coupled with the ODoE's Business Tax Credit Pass-through Program. These funds exceeded $2,000,000 spanning a ten year period. • Financial Return Since the implementation of its energy management program, the District has saved a total of $4.3 million and avoided utility costs of $1,123,000 for the school year 2004/2005 which is equivalent to approximately 22 teaching positions. • Other Benefits Gresham-Barlow became the first school district in the nation to achieve a 30-point performance improvement score (as measured by EPA's 1-100 Energy Performance Rating System) across its entire building portfolio. This achievement won the school district a 2005 ENERGY STAR Leader Award presented in September 2005. Monitoring & Verifying Energy Savings Gresham-Barlow used SMR's UM Advanced Cost Avoidance application to enable the District to measure and verify its avoided utility cost savings. Distinguishing Value The school district obtained ENERGY STAR ratings with the aid of the ENERGY STAR feature in SMR's Utility Manager software which automates the transfer of the school district's utility data to the EPA's rating system. &EPA United States Environmental Protection Agency MVk.
