This guidance replaces previous OSWER
guidance from 2006 regarding perchlorate
and the clean up of sites under CERCLA
and the National Contingency Plan. The
previous guidance used a preliminary
remediation goal (PRG) for perchlorate of
24.5 parts per billion (ppb or micrograms
per liter [(J,g/L]) in water when making site-
specific cleanup decisions. The Agency has
now issued an Interim Drinking Water
Health Advisory (Interim Health Advisory)
for exposure to perchlorate of 15 [j,g/L in
water.

This fact sheet explains the January 2009
proposed amendments to the SPCC Rule to
tailor and streamline requirements for the
dairy industry. The proposed rule would
exempt milk containers and associated
piping and appurtenances from SPCC
applicability and requirements if they are:
(1) constructed according to current
applicable 3-A Sanitary Standards, and (2)
subject to the current applicable Grade "A"
Pasteurized Milk Ordinance (PMO) or a
state dairy regulatory requirement equivalent
to the current applicable PMO.
