| ^ \ Brownfields 2017 Assessment and Cleanup Grant Fact Sheet % Genesee County Land Bank Authority, Ml EPA Brownfields Program EPA's Brownfields Program empowers states, communities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. A brownfield site is real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. In 2002, the Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act was passed to help states and communities around the country cleanup and revitalize brownfields sites. Under this law, EPA provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through four competitive grant programs: assessment grants, revolving loan fund grants, cleanup grants, and job training grants. Additionally, funding support is provided to state and tribal response programs through a separate mechanism. Assessment Grants $200,000for hazardous substances $100,000for petroleum EPA has selected the Genesee County Land Bank Authority for two brownfields assessment grants. Community-wide hazardous substances grant funds will be used to conduct approximately 15 Phase I and six Phase II environmental site assessments, and prepare two cleanup plans. Community-wide petroleum grant funds will be used to conduct approximately six Phase I and three Phase II environmental site assessments, and prepare one cleanup plan. Grant funds of both types also will be used to update the current brownfields inventory and support community outreach activities. Cleanup Grants $200,000for hazardous substances $52,000for petroleum EPA has selected the Genesee County Land Bank Authority for two brownfields cleanup grants. Hazardous substances grant funds will be used to clean up the former Family Independence Agency Building at 2320 West Pierson Road in Flint. The cleanup site has been used by commercial tenants and was last operated by the Department of Human Services. It is contaminated with inorganic contaminants and other hazardous substances. Petroleum grant funds will be used to clean up the former Ross Oil site at 2360 West Pierson Road in Flint. The cleanup site was formerly a car wash and oil change center, and has been vacant since 2009. It is contaminated with petroleum, metals, and inorganic contaminants. Grant funds for both sites also will be used to conduct community outreach activities.
