Honeywell Inc. Process Control Division Fort Washington, Pennsylvania The Road to Reuse ~~~ This 67-acre site was owned and operated by Honeywell Inc. from 1965 until 1986. During that time, Honeywell manufactured instruments and control systems for industry. In 1986, the facility was sold to 1100 Virginia Drive Associates. Honeywell continued to lease a portion of the facility for manufacturing of electronic controls and mechanical valve assemblies until March 1993, when all of Honeywell's manufacturing operations were transferred to other locations. In addition, Honeywell continued to lease a portion of the facility for office space until 2006. On August 18, 1995, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Honeywell entered into an "Administrative Order on Consent" to provide for final corrective measures Approximate total acres and current use Approximate Acres in Reuse-. 67 Current Use: Office park at the facility. Honeywell continues to operate the groundwater extraction and treatment system and monitors the performance of the system until cleanup levels are attained. In addition, a vapor intrusion evaluation was completed for the facility in 2006. This evaluation found that, based on available information and site-specific modeling, risks from any intruding vapors at the facility under the current use are reasonably expected to be acceptable. In 1993, the majority of the facility was transformed into the Fort Washington Expo Center. The Expo Center had hosted some of the region's biggest consumer and trade shows, and at 290,000 square feet, was the largest such suburban venue in the northeastern United States. The Expo Center closed in 2006 after the building was sold to Liberty Property Trust who renovated the center into the Fort Washington Office Park. The office park—which can accommodate 2,800 employees—is now leased to GMAC Mortgage who took over the space in 2007. DeVry University also occupies 103,000 square feet of the office park. www. epa-.jrov/rea3wcmd/correctiveaction.htm For More Information EPA Region 3 Contact: Darius Ostrauskas, (215) 814-3360, ostrauskas.darius@epa.gov ------- |
