ASSESSMENT CLEANUP &
REDEVELOPMENT EXCHANGE SYSTEM
ACRES Training
The Assessment, Cleanup and Redevelopment
Exchange System (ACRES) is an online database for
Brownfieids Grantees to electronically submit data
directly to EPA. The use of this system is mandatory for
all FY2006 & FY2007 grantees but is now open for use
by all current grantees. Go to the ACRES Information
page for access to the database.
Online training is available every other month at the
following times:
• Tuesday, November 13 at 4 PM EST

Brownfieids 2008 Conference
The next National Brownfieids Conference is scheduled
for May 5-7. 2008 at Detroit Cobo Center. Detroit. Ml.
•	Conference registration is now open. Go to the
registration page to register now!
•	A list of Mobile Workshops is now available. Online
registration for the mobile workshops and walking
tours will open soon, so be sure to check back for
more information.
•	Poster Gallery & Competition ideas are now being
accepted. The deadline for submission is January 4,
2008
•	Become an endorser for Brownfieids 2008. Endorsers
are companies, organizations and agencies that
officially acknowledge the conference as a premier
national brownfieids event. Go to the Endorsers page

Taunton River

Watershed Connections:
Free Training for Municipal Boards and
Concerned Citizens
Taunton River Watershed Alliance (TRWA), Mass
Audubon, and the Campaign are offering a series of
workshops for watershed residents, municipal volunteers
and town staff. All workshops include FREE training
units from the MACC "fundamentals" classes for
Conservation Commissioners!
The next workshop will be held as the TRWA's Annual
Meeting on the evening of Wednesday, November 7th at
7:00 pm in the First Parish Church, Taunton, MA. This
year's speaker will be Heidi Ricci, Senior Policy Analyst
with Mass Audubon. Heidi will present "Shaping the
Future of Your Community: A Citizen's Guide to
involvement in Community Planning. Land Protection
and Project Review in Massachusetts."

Massachusetts Brownfields Tax Credit
Seminars
MassDevelopment (in partnership with MassDEP and
other state agencies) is sponsoring a series of 7
workshops in September, October and November. The
last two are:
•	October 30 - Boston
•	November 13 - Worcester
The main focus of the workshops is to get the word out
about the Brownfields Tax Credit Program. A secondary
purpose will be to have state agencies give brief updates
on their programs. MassDEP and MassDevelopment
will be represented by our regional offices. They will be
joined by the Attorney General's Office, MassDOR and
MassBusiness. Go to the announcement for more

The beta version of the SMARTe website is now online.
Sustainable Management Approaches and Revitalization
Tools - electronic (SMARTe) is an open-source, web-
based, decision support system for developing and
evaluating future reuse scenarios for potentially
contaminated land. SMARTe contains guidance and
analysis tools for all aspects of the revitalization process
including planning, environmental, economic, and social
concerns.

Grant Management Training for Non-Profit
Applicants and Recipients
A new pilot Grant Management Training for Non-Profit
Applicants and Recipients has been designed to
introduce grant recipients and applicant communities to
EPA's grant requirements and how to find and apply for
grant opportunities. Stay Exempt is an IRS training
program that provides the tools and knowledge to help
keep organization's exempt status intact. It consists of
five interactive courses, which you can take individually
and in any order.
EPA Community Energy Challenge
EPA is challenging all New England communities to
save money and reduce air pollution by assessing their
energy use, taking action to improve energy efficiency,
and seeking out renewable energy choices. EPA will
provide technical assistance to every community that
chooses to Take the Challenge!
