This year's Conference is expanding to accommodate
more attendees, provide exhibitor space, and to highlight
the Administration's emphasis upon the energy and
public health aspects of sustainable development. The
recipients of the 2007 Massachusetts Smart Growth /
Smart Energy Awards and the Healthy Motion Awards
will be recognized at the Conference.
Hosted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the
MA Chapter of the American Planning Association in
partnership with the Urban Land Institute and the
Massachusetts Technology Collaborative.

Brownfields 2008 Conference
The next National Brownfields Conference is scheduled
for May 5-7, 2008 at Detroit Cobo Center. Detroit. Ml.
•	Conference registration is now open. Go to the
registration page to register now!
•	A Transaction Forum will take place on Monday, May
5th, from 10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m at the Cobo Center.

properties!
•	A list of Mobile Workshops is now available. Online
registration for the mobile workshops and walking
tours will open soon, so be sure to check back for
more information.
•	Poster Gallery & Competition ideas are now being
accepted. The deadline for submission is January 4,
2008.

are companies, organizations and agencies that
officially acknowledge the conference as a premier

Free Training for Municipal Boards and
Concerned Citizens
Taunton River Watershed Alliance (TRWA), Mass
Audubon, and the Campaign are offering a series of
workshops for watershed residents, municipal volunteers
and town staff. All workshops include FREE training
units from the MACC "fundamentals" classes for
Conservation Commissioners!
Southeastern Mass Community Preservation Act
Conference, Saturday, November 10th, 8:30 a.m. to
3:00 p.m. at Bridgewater State College. Sponsored by
the Community Preservation Coalition.
Conservation Commission Fundamentals: Three units of
the Mass Association of Conservation Commissions

Grant Management Training for Non-Profit
Applicants and Recipients
A new pilot Grant Management Training for Non-Profit
Applicants and Recipients has been designed to
introduce grant recipients and applicant communities to
EPA's grant requirements and how to find and apply for
grant opportunities. Stay Exempt is an IRS training
program that provides the tools and knowledge to help
keep organization's exempt status intact. It consists of
five interactive courses, which you can take individually
and in any order.

2008 River Rally Call for Workshops
The ninth annual National River Rally will be held May 2-
5, 2008 at Sawmill Creek Resort in Huron, Ohio.
The River Rally is a unique learning and training
opportunity for professional and volunteer river and
watershed leaders. Now is the chance for you to pass
along your knowledge and expertise in one (or more) of
the nearly 100 workshops that will be offered.
Scholarships are available to workshop presenters.

EPA Community Energy Challenge
EPA is challenging all New England communities to
save money and reduce air pollution by assessing their
energy use, taking action to improve energy efficiency,
and seeking out renewable energy choices. EPA will
provide technical assistance to every community that
chooses to Take the Challenge!

SMARTe
The beta version of the SMARTe website is now online.
Sustainable Management Approaches and Revitalization
Tools - electronic (SMARTe) is an open-source, web-
based, decision support system for developing and
evaluating future reuse scenarios for potentially
contaminated land. SMARTe contains guidance and
analysis tools for all aspects of the revitalization process
including planning, environmental, economic, and social
concerns.
